But the solution for the social platform is not so simple, at least until Facebook seriously decides to fight the fake profiles that abound on the platform.

Back in the day, on an USA newspaper magazine there was a comic that summed up the fundamental problem with the Internet.

Facebook, like all social networks, only require an email to join the community. Since emails are free and easy to get and there is no “background check” to get an email, anyone can have numerous fake accounts online. Facebook claims there are nearly two billion users worldwide. While that is great for getting advertising dollars, there is no way to find out how many of those users are real people.

So how does one protect the security of real Facebook users online when Facebook won’t ever admit that its number of “real users” are probably only a fraction of the two billion it claims to have?
